How 4 is used

Most common for concurrent review of inpatient stays: the facility requests certification of additional days against the original admission certification. Also used to push out the validity window of a service certification when scheduling slips.

Example

A patient certified for a 3-day stay is not ready for discharge; the facility submits UM02 = 4 requesting additional days.
